The Life and Ministry of the Westminster Church
Our Mission Statement
Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:13
Carry each other’s burdens, in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
We, the members of Westminster Presbyterian Church, are a Christ-centered community of faith, hope, and love. God has called us together, knowing our strengths and weaknesses, to serve our neighbors on the city’s Northside and to put our faith into action. As children of God, we have been called to create a climate of Christian love and acceptance, to spiritually nurture all who come through our doors, and reach out to help the hurts and meet the needs of people in the church, community, and across the world.
In order to fulfill this calling, we agree to do the following:
• Nurture the spiritual development of our members.
• Introduce community newcomers to the life and programs of our church.
• Broaden our church’s appeal to all ethnic groups.
• Reach out to new areas beyond our immediate perimeters, with new thoughts and ideas that will attract people to this oldest Protestant church in the City of Syracuse.
• Encourage our members to view their daily life and work situation as an “Opportunity for Ministry,” by caring for and supporting one another.
• Work ecumenically in our Northside community to look at community problems and ways to address them.
• Minister to the elderly, the needy, the disabled, and those who are in non-traditional families.
• Support the world mission of the church through study, prayer, outreach, and giving.
